Hey everyone,

I just have a few exciting announcements and new opportunities for the Wax on Felt marketing team.

FIrst of all, we will be meeting again this Wednesday at our normal time (9pm). Please try to make it, since we had such a light meeting last week.

Secondly, because the marketing team has so much to do, we thought it’d be a good idea to distribute some of the workload as much as possible. To do this, we are creating several new positions. Described below are the positions as well as a short description. If you are interested in any of them, please email me back as soon as possible so that we can setup a time to interview.

Vice President of Marketing – The VP of marketing will essentially run the marketing team with me. In specific, he/she will manage many of the day-to-day tasks of the department such as organizing the team for flyers, working on the execution of our strategic marketing plan, and have heavy input on how the department/marketing for Wax will grow in the next few years.

Public Relations Assistant – The PR assistant will help Laura, our current PR guru, with the distribution and creation of press releases. You’ll get to learn about how to write and send out press releases as well as be working on building our media contact list. You will have need to be “in the know” with everything that Wax on Felt is doing so that we can continue to expand as an organization. When Laura graduates this semester, you will replace her as the main PR representative this Spring.

Events – The president of our events committee, which will be a new subcommittee within Wax on Felt, will work on creating a group of Wax on Felt members to work on the planning and execution of wax on felt events. This includes making sure that our concerts are well marketed and attended. But, more specifically, the events team this semester will work on planning our Wax on Felt brand relaunching party at the end of the semester. The brand relaunching party is an event that Wax will be planning to formally announce our rebranding as an organization to the school (in short: free food and music for Emerson).

Also, I’d like to check in with those of you that expressed interest running specific duties at the beginning of the year… Below is a list of people that I have doing certain things. If any of you below can no longer do what you originally were interested in, please let me know ASAP so that we can find someone to fill your place. If you can, I’m so excited that we can finally get things started and in motion!

Online –
layla, mariel
Facebook- sonam, jamie
Twitter – Jamie, christina, sarah
Myspace
Purevolume
Last.FM

PR
Jamie, Andy, Stasia, Paige, Layla, Lena, Charis, Cheryl

Charis – Liason to art
Marielle – Liason to Events
Lena- Liason to VIral

Thanks,
Nick

Marketing Minutes 10/21

By nick October 23rd, 2009, under Marketing Department

Hi all,

Here’s what we discussed at the last meeting:

We began working on the marketing plan, following the worksheet that I handed out (it’s attached for those of you that weren’t there).

We decided that some of the internal strengths were that: everything is in place for the potential to be a great organization, good artists
weaknesses included communication and the lack of detailed department updates.

External opportunities included on campus functions, performances, newsletter.  Threats were other organizations and local bands.

We will continue our next meeting, this Wednesday, by analyzing our target customers, brand positioning, and competitive stance.  We will look at our key initiatives together once we have all of this together.

The group of us that were there split into groups of two/three to begin working on these…

If you can all find some time to discuss this week that’d be great!  If anyone wasn’t at the meeting but is interested in researching any of these topics, please contact me.

Also, since the blog and newsletter was such a hot topic, I’ve gone ahead and started a Wax on Felt blog.  I’ve asked the art department to begin posting to it as well, since we’re the two departments that have considered posting to a blog.  Hopefully the rest of the blogs will follow suit soon.

If you want to post your results/findings to the blog that’d be great!

Have a great weekend!  Let me know if you guys have any questions.

Thanks,
Nick

Introducing our 2009-2010 Artists!

By admin October 22nd, 2009, under Media

The Blue Rhonda

“This music is going somewhere, I have no doubts about it,” says Glenn Kendzia, frontman of The Blue Rhonda. Apparently, others agree. TBR was recently selected as a finalist in Boston’s Rockus™ Battle of the Bands, sponsored by Rolling Stone Magazine. TBR’s brand of alternative pop blends contemporary rock with throwback organ sounds of the 70s, evoking the affect of Jason Mraz and Maroon 5, and the quirkiness and experimentalism of Ben Folds, The Rocket Summer, and Moe.

Fronted by songwriter Glenn Kendzia, The Blue Rhonda is a Boston act comprised of students from Emerson College and Berklee College of Music. Their music is a reflection of their collective influences, which run the musical gamut.

“My influences are all over the place,” explained Kendzia. “But I like things that are catchy and memorable. One day I’ll be at a Bob Weir & Ratdog concert, while the next night I’m getting banged around in the crowd at a Saves the Day show.”

The band has had a successful start to 2009, from shooting a high-budget music video for “The Web Effect,” (in post production), to signing with Boston independent record label, Wax on Felt. The band will release a full length album this year, with recording starting this summer.

Amory Sivertson

Amory Sivertson dabbles in the folk-indie-pop-rock musical genres, with piano as her main instrument. Her music was most recently described in Em Magazine as being “beautiful, yet quirky.” Originally from Shaker Heights, Ohio, Amory is currently living in Boston, attending Emerson College and actively pursuing her musical endeavors with humility and enthusiasm. She released her first full-length album in April 2008, “La Di Da,” and won Emerson’s 2008 EVVY Award in the “Best Original Song” category for the first song on the album, “Beautiful.” Amory hopes to form a band and release her second full-length in 2009. (For booking information, contact amorymusic@gmail.com). Thank you for listening, and spread the music!
